Important Weekend Fixtures of Feb-2008

This saturday has some important fixtures in English Premier league with the top 2 club facing tougher opposition. Current Champions Manchester United will have a crunch test at White Hart Lane when they face Spurs. Spurs are in excellent run of form in recent times at home. Arsenal will face Manchester City in their own backyard later tonight. City has not been in good form as they got away from FA exit to Sheffield United. Then they were held by Derby. But playing at home today will be a great advantage as have kept their clean sheet at home.

The most important clash will be the match between Birmingham and Derby. This will be great fight for avoiding relegation. Birmingham went down to Sunderland last week 2-0. This will be a crucial decider for the season.

Injuries Resulting from European Champions League

First of all i would like to congratulate the EPL Clubs that made it to the Quarter finals of European Champions League. The teams that qualified were

  • Chelsea
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester United
These teams made sure that the majority of quarter finals were English Clubs. These English teams played their champions league matches at the cost of some injuries.

Arsenal Injury Woes Continues

The major injury is to the French international Thieiry Henry who plays for Gunners.Arsenal not only saw their exit from Champions league but also saw their Captain suffering a stomach cum Groin injury. Arsene Wenger confirmed his injury after the match against the Dutch Leaders. This injury can well keep Henry out the premiership throughout this season. The chances of him playing for Arsenal is very low this season.

United running out of Forwards

Another French striker who suffered injury was Luis Saha. This Red Devils striker could well be out for 4 weeks. He has got a Hamstring injury.Fergusun said "Louis will be missing for four weeks, although with hamstrings you can never be sure exactly how long they will be out. Ole will not be available until March 31, Darren Fletcher is out for two months and now Henrik is leaving us. It has been a bad week, apart from the results."

Another french International who suffered injury was Micheal Silvestre .Victory came at a price for United as Mikael Silvestre was carried off on a stretcher with a suspected dislocated shoulder."It is not looking good for Mikael at all," said Ferguson. "At first we thought he had broken his arm but now it seems it is a dislocation."

With Saha and Ole out for the month United are clearly running out of strikers. Fergusun will have more problems once Larsson leave Old Trafford .With Alan Smith returning from a long injury Rooney and Smith will be the striker for Manchester for this month.

Chelsea injury Concern

Chelsea Captain suffered a big injury during the Carling Cup final Against Arsenal.Jose did not play him in the match against Porto. His participation in the FA Cup semi finals is also not so sure.John Terry got a nasty blow in the head from the Arsenal giant Diaby in the Carling Cup Final.

There are no Premier League matches scheduled this weekend. As FA Cup matches are ahead on 10th and 11th more injuries can be expected.

Best Own Goal of English Premier League from Cesc Fabregas

The Spanish International and the best Arsenal mid fielder was completely out of form for Arsenal during the important clash against Reading F.C. on Saturday. He missed an easy opportunity and also scored an excellent own goal for Reading.

This own goal is special and is the best own Goal of English premier league.Even a kid watching this goal would say that this is intentional.Fabregas very carefully and trickily flicked the cross into his own net.

I am sure that he has never scored a goal of this class for Arsenal or even for his home country Spain. This is one of the best premiership Goals and "The Best Own Goal of English Premier League".

Watch this special own Goal from Cesc Fabregas below.

I just cannot remember a better own goal that this.I have been watching English premier league for the past 3 years.I will always vote this as the Best Own Goal of English premier League. Please vote your opinions as comments

Manchester City in Takeover talks

Manchester City revealed before New Year that they were seeking fresh investment in the club .
The key to any deal would be the agreement of chairman John Wardle and his business partner David Makin, who between them own 29.75% of the shares but also have £21million in outstanding loans to the club. The next largest shareholders after Wardle and Makin are Mark Boler (18.75%), BSkyB (9.9%) and Francis Lee (7%+).

If he and Makin did step down, then it is understood the newcomers would invest heavily in City but could end up financing a full £70million takeover.

That could mean a boost for manager Stuart Pearce as he attempts to strengthen his squad.

Terry Misses Carling Cup Final

John Terry, the captain of Chelsea will miss the finals of the Carling cup against Arsenal.
Terry suffered suspected ankle ligament damage in an innocuous incident in the first half against Porto in Wednesday night's Champions League clash.
